The Trinidad Sour is a very interesting cocktail. It was invented by Giuseppe González in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s base is Angostura Bitters which is unlike any cocktail. Though on paper this drink shouldn’t work, it is actually quite enjoyable with an herbaceous flavor. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

The history of the Yellow Bird is quite unclear. Many think it was named after a Haitian song called Choucone, which was rewritten into English as “Yellow Bird.” There are a couple different variants of this drink. The IBA version that is a Sour, and a more tropical one. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

The Tequila Sour is kind of like a combination of a Boston Sour and Margarita. It’s not nearly as famous as those two drinks, but it is what it is.

The Bacardí Cocktail is a riff on the Daiquiri. It was invented in the early 1900’s but didn’t get its name until later. It appeared in 1914 edition of Drinks, which specified the use of Bacardí Rum. Bacardí eventually trademarked the drink that was named after them and now the Cocktail can only be made with Bacardí Rum.

The Monkey Gland is a Cocktail invented in the 1920’s by Harry MacElhone at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, France. It is named after the debunked scientific idea that Monkey Testicles would increase you life span. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

The Filibuster was created by Erik Adkins in San Francisco, California. It is essentially a Boston Sour that substitutes the Simple Syrup for Maple Syrup. You don’t want to use the cheap pancake syrup, because it doesn’t actually contain maple, and is pretty much just High-Fructose Corn Syrup with Brown Food Coloring.

The Brandy Crusta was invented in the 1850’s by an Italian Bartender named Joseph Santini at his bar, Jewel of the South, in New Orleans, Louisiana. It gets its name from the sugared rim, referring to it as a “Crusta” or “Hard Outer Layer.” This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

The Appletini is easy on the Tini, as it is a Martini in name only. There are a couple different recipes for this drink, some involving Apple Brandy. This drink was featured extensively in the show Scrubs, being J.D.’s favorite drink.

The Boston Sour is a Whiskey Sour, with the addition of Egg White. The Egg White completely changes the texture of the Whiskey Sour, making it much more frothy.

New York Sour

  • Combine the Whiskey, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup and Egg White in a Cocktail Shaker
  • Dry Shake vigorously for 30 Seconds
  • Add Ice to the Shaker
  • Wet Shake for 15 Seconds
  • Double Strain into a Rocks Glass over Ice
  • Float Red Wine on Top

The New York Sour is an old cocktail originating sometime around the Mid-1800’s. It is essentially a Boston Sour with a Red Wine Float. This cocktail has had a couple other names over the years, including the Continental Sour. It is thought to have been invented in Chicago, Illinois. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.
