Homemade Orgeat

Ingredients

1 Cup	Unsweetened Almond Milk
1.5 Cups	White Sugar
3 Dashes	Orange Blossom Water (Optional)
1 Barspoon	Almond Extract
1 Splash	Vodka

Directions

Combine the Sugar and Almond Milk in a Saucepan over Medium Heat
Stir till the Sugar is dissolved
Add the rest of the Ingredients to the Pot
Stir till combined
Pour into a Glass Jar or Bottle
Add the Vodka and Shake

Orgeat is a cocktail syrup that is used in a variety of tiki cocktails like the Mai Tai. It was originally made with Barley, but was eventually changed. It was also made using Bitter Almonds at one point, but because they contain cyanide and can be deadly at large quantities, only Sweet Almonds are used now.

Salty Dog

Ingredients

1.5 oz.	Vodka (or Gin)
To Top	Grapefruit Juice
Rim	Salt
Garnish	Grapefruit Slice

Directions

Rim a Collins Glass with Salt
Pour the Vodka into the Salted Collins Glass over Ice
Top with Grapefruit Juice
Stir till combined
Garnish with a Grapefruit Slice and Straw

The Salty Dog is pretty much the same as a Greyhound, but with a Salted Rim. The drink was thought to have been created in the 1950’s.

Screwdriver

Ingredients

2 oz.	Vodka
To Top	Orange Juice
Garnish	Orange Slice

Directions

Pour the Vodka into a Highball Glass over Ice
Top with Orange Juice
Stir till combined
Garnish with an Orange Slice and Straw

The Screwdriver, or in the U.K. “Vodka and Orange,” is a very simple cocktail. It was invented by Americans fighting overseas in Turkey during World War II. A popular theory as to how it got its name is because soldiers lacking spoons used screwdrivers to stir their drink.

Sea Breeze

Ingredients

1.5 oz.	Vodka
1 oz.	Grapefruit Juice
To Top	Cranberry Juice
Garnish	Lime Wedge

Directions

Combine the Vodka and Grapefruit Juice in a Highball Glass over Ice
Top with Cranberry Juice
Stir till combined
Garnish with a Lime Wedge and Straw

The Sea Breeze has gone through a number of different Recipes throughout its life. The drink was a prohibition era cocktail originally containing Gin and Grenadine. The recipe later grew to involve Cranberry Juice partially because of Ocean Spray. This cocktail is closely related to the Bay Breeze, which substitutes the Grapefruit Juice for Pineapple Juice, the Cape Codder, which lacks Grapefruit Juice, and the Greyhound and Salty Dog, which lack the Cranberry Juice. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

Sex on the Beach

Ingredients

1.5 oz.	Vodka
1 oz	Peach Schnapps
2 oz.	Orange Juice
2 oz.	Cranberry Juice
Garnish	Orange Slice

Directions

Combine the Alcohol and Orange Juice in a Highball Glass over Ice
Stir till combined
Top with Cranberry Juice and let it float to the bottom
Garnish with an Orange Slice and Straw

The Sex on the Beach was probably invented sometime prior to 1982. It is essentially a combination of a Fuzzy Navel and Cape Codder. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

Homemade Simple Syrup

Ingredients

2 Parts	White Sugar (or Demerara/Brown Sugar)
1 Part	Water
1 Splash	Vodka

Directions

Combine the Sugar and Water in a Saucepan
Heat until almost boiling while constantly Stirring
Pour into a Glass Jar or Bottle once the Sugar is dissolved
Add the Vodka and Shake

Simple Syrup is an ingredient used in many cocktails, from the Whiskey Sour to the Tom Collins. The name comes from the fact that the ingredients are very simple. The recipe above is a 2:1 Simple Syrup because it’s more shelf stable than a 1:1 Simple Syrup. Of course that also means it’s more sweet, so adjust your cocktail recipes to your liking. You could also make a 1:1 Simple Syrup by adding Water or removing Sugar. Using a Demerara Sugar will make a Demerara Syrup and the same goes for Brown Sugar.

Tokyo Tea

Ingredients

.5 oz.	Gin
.5 oz.	Vodka
.5 oz.	White Rum
.5 oz.	Tequila Blanco
.5 oz.	Triple Sec
.75 oz.	Midori (Melon Liqueur)
.25 oz.	Simple Syrup
1 oz.	Lime Juice
To Top	Soda Water
Garnish	Lime Wheel
Garnish	Cocktail Cherry

Directions

Combine the Alcohol, Lime Juice and Simple Syrup in a Highball Glass over Ice
Top with Soda Water
Stir till combined
Garnish with a Lime Wheel, Cocktail Cherry and Straw

The Tokyo Tea is a Midori riff on the Long Island Iced Tea. The drink gets its name from the fact that Midori was invented in Japan.

Cosmopolitan

Ingredients

2 oz.	Citron Vodka
1 oz.	Triple Sec
1 oz.	Cranberry Juice
.5 oz.	Lime Juice
.25 oz.	Simple Syrup (Optional)
Garnish	Lime Wheel

Directions

Combine the Ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
Shake for 15 seconds
Double Strain into a Cocktail Glass
Garnish with a Lime Wheel

The Cosmopolitan, or Cosmo, is a drink that was made popular in the 90’s by the show Sex in the City. The origin of this cocktail is unclear. Some say it was a riff on the Kamikaze, while others say it is based on a cocktail of a similar name, the Cosmopolitan Daisy. This cocktail is an Official IBA Cocktail.
