The Grapefruit Martini, despite its name, isn’t an actual “Martini.” This drink is very sweet. Some recipes call for a little bit of Lemon or Lime Juice to bring down the sweetness a little bit. I find that to take away from the Grapefruit flavor, but to each their own.

It got its name because it looks like an Iced Tea and is from Long Island. Which “Long Island” is up for debate, however. Some claim it was invented by Robert “Rosebud” Butt in 1972 at the Oak Beach Inn in Long Island, New York, while others claim it was invented in the 1920’s by “Old Man Bishop” in Long Island, Tennessee. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

When John Martin and the bar owner Jack Morgan had too much Smirnoff and Ginger Beer, this drink was created. The Copper Mug part is a mystery however. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.
