The Shirley Temple is named after the famous Child Actress (and later a U.S. Diplomat) of the same name. Shirley Temple herself didn’t actually like the drink, however. It is believed that the Mocktail was invented at the Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles, California in the 1930’s. The drink was considered a drink for girls, and a similar Mocktail, the Roy Rogers, is considered a boys drink. The Alcoholic version of this drink is the Dirty Shirley.
