Ingredients

2-4 oz.Pusser’s Rum (Dark Rum)
4 oz.Pineapple Juice
1 oz.Orange Juice
1 oz.Cream of Coconut
GarnishPineapple Wedge
GarnishCocktail Cherry
GarnishNutmeg

Directions

  • Combine the Ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
  • Shake for 15 seconds
  • Strain into a Hurricane Glass over Ice
  • Grate Nutmeg over the top
  • Garnish with a Pineapple Wedge, Cocktail Cherry and Straw

If you like Piña Coladas, you’ll like its riff, the Painkiller. The drink was created in the 1970’s at the Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands. Despite not inventing the cocktail, the bastards over at Pusser’s trademarked the drink and have sued people over using different Rum. You can use different Rum, but according to the evil corporate overlords, it is not a Painkiller. This cocktail has three levels with different amounts of Rum. The more pain you are currently in, the more Rum you use.

1 BarspoonMaraschino Liqueur
1Pineapple Chunk
(or .5 oz. Pineapple Juice)
.25 oz.Simple Syrup
2 DashesAngostura Bitters
To TopChilled Champagne
(Sparkling Wine)
GarnishLemon Slice

Directions

  • Combine the Whiskey, Maraschino Liqueur, Simple Syrup, Pineapple and Bitters in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
  • Shake for 15 seconds
  • Double Strain into a Cocktail Glass or Coupe
  • Top with Champagne
  • Garnish with a Lemon Slice

The Price of Wales is a riff of the Improved Whiskey Cocktail. It was invented by King Edward VII in the early 1900’s. At the time, he was just the “Prince of Wales,” thus the name of the drink.

The Rum Runner is a Florida drink invented in the 1950’s at a tiki bar called Holiday Isle.

2 oz.Light Rum
1.5 oz.Pineapple Juice
.5 oz.Lime Juice
1.5 oz.Cream of Coconut
2Pineapple Chunks (Optional)
GarnishPineapple Wedge
GarnishMaraschino Cherry

Directions

  • Combine the Ingredients in a Blender with Ice
  • Blend till combined
  • Pour into a Hurricane Glass
  • Garnish with a Pineapple Wedge, Maraschino Cherry and Straw (and a Cocktail Umbrella if available)

Piña Coladas are arguable the most iconic tropical drink in part because of the song “Escape (the Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes. It is thought to have been invented in the 1950’s by Ramon Marrero Perez in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The original recipe is a shaken drink instead of the blended drink that we all know and love today. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.
