1.5 oz.Gold Rum
1 oz.151-Proof Rum
1 DashPernod (or Herbsaint/Absinthe)
.75 oz.Lime Juice
.25 oz.Cinnamon Syrup
.25 oz.Grapefruit Juice
.5 oz.Falernum
1 BarspoonGrenadine
1 DashAngostura Bitters
GarnishMint Sprig

Directions

  • Combine the Ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
  • Shake for 15 Seconds
  • Pour into a Zombie or a Highball Glass
  • Garnish with a Mint Sprig and Straw

The Zombie was invented by Donn Beach in the 1930’s for a man who wanted something to get him through a business meeting. Apparently the man came back a couple days later complaining it made him feel like a Zombie, thus the name. The drink even has it’s own glass, which is just a skull cup. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

.5 oz.Crown Royal (Canadian Whiskey)
1 BarspoonPeach Schnapps
.75 oz.Cranberry Juice
8 oz.Red Bull (Energy Drink)

Directions

  • Pour the Red Bull in Tumbler or Highball Glass
  • Combine the Whiskey, Peach Schnapps and Cranberry Juice in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
  • Shake for 15 Seconds
  • Double Strain into a Shot Glass
  • Drop (or Pour) the Shot into the Tumbler Glass

The Vegas Bomb is what is known as a Bomb Shot (or Drop Shot) like the Irish Car Bomb or Sake Bomb. The drink is just a Royal Flush Shot dropped into an Energy Drink. It’s name comes from the fact that Las Vegas is known for gambling and Royal Flush is a poker term.

  • Blend till Combined
  • Pour in a Rocks Glass
  • Garnish with a Skewered Lemon Peel with Cocktail Cherry in the Center

The Saturn was invented in 1967 by J. “Popo” Galsini for the International Bartenders Association World Championship. It was originally named the “X-15” after the rocket plane, but when one crashed and killed it’s pilot, it was renamed into the Saturn. The cool Garnish was designed to look like the planet Saturn with it’s ring.

  • Rim a Beer Mug with Salt
  • Pour the Beer and Tomato Juice into the Mug

The Red Eye, or Red Beer, is similar to the Michelada, which is sort of like a Beer Bloody Mary. It is usually drank as a brunch cocktail.

  • Combine the Vodka, Passion Fruit Liqueur, Passionfruit Puree, Lime Juice and Vanilla Syrup in a Cocktail Shaker with Ice
  • Shake for 15 Seconds
  • Double Strain into a Cocktail Glass

  • Pour the Champagne in a Shot Glass

The Porn Star Martini was invented by Douglas Ankrah at Townhouse Bar in London, England in 2002. It got it’s name because Douglas was inspired to make this drink by the smell of a strippers perfume. It is served with a shot of Champagne to help cleans the pallet between sips.

The Fog Cutter was invented by Victor Bergeron (Trader Vic) in the 1940’s. Like the Painkiller and Corpse Reviver No. 2, it was invented as a hangover cure. It is supposed to cut through the haze of the morning after heavy drinking.

The Jet Pilot is a riff on the Test Pilot that was invented at Luau, a bar in Beverly Hills, California in 1958.

The Test Pilot is another Tropical Cocktail invented by Donn Beach around 1940. It is the precursor to the more famous Jet Pilot.

  • Shake for 15 Seconds
  • Double Strain into a Cocktail Glass
  • Garnish with a Raspberry

The French Martini was invented in the late 1980’s and, like the Appletini, was one of the first fruity fake Martini‘s that were popular in the 90’s. The “French” part of the name refers to the fact that Chambord is a French Liqueur. Chambord was used originally, but now bars are more likely to use Crème de Cassis. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

Homemade Falernum

Ingredients

.5 CupLight Rum
.25 CupRaw Almonds
.25 InchGinger Root (Optional)
30Cloves
4 oz.Lime Juice
.75 CupWhite Sugar
.5 CupWater

Directions

  • Skin the Ginger Root
  • Slice the Ginger Root and Almonds
  • Roast the Ginger and Almonds in the Oven at 400°F for 5 Minutes
  • Combine the Clove, Almonds and Rum in a Glass Jar and let it Steep for 2 Days
  • Add the Lime Zest and Ginger to the Jar
  • Shake to mix it up and then let Steep for 1 more Day
  • Strain the Liquid out of the mixture into a separate Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Combine the Lime Juice, Sugar and Water in a Pot over medium heat
  • Bring to a boil while stirring
  • Combine the 2 Mixtures and then shake to Combine

Falernum is a Tiki Syrup that is used in a fair amount of Tropical Drinks including the Zombie and Test Pilot. It can sometimes be found in stores, but if you can’t, that is what this recipe is for.
