Cinnamon Syrup

Ingredients

.5 CupWhite Sugar
.5 CupWater
2Cinnamon Sticks
1 SplashVodka

Directions

  • Combine the Sugar and Water is a Small Pot over Medium Heat
  • Stir till the Sugar is dissolved
  • Pour into a Glass Jar or Bottle and add the Cinnamon Sticks
  • Let sit for 6 hours
  • Strain out the Cinnamon Sticks
  • Add the Vodka and Shake to combine

Cinnamon Syrup is and ingredient used in a couple of cocktails such as the Zombie. It can also be used on pancakes, waffles and French toast. The Vodka is added to make it more shelf stable.

Homemade Falernum

Ingredients

.5 CupLight Rum
.25 CupRaw Almonds
.25 InchGinger Root (Optional)
30Cloves
4 oz.Lime Juice
.75 CupWhite Sugar
.5 CupWater

Directions

  • Skin the Ginger Root
  • Slice the Ginger Root and Almonds
  • Roast the Ginger and Almonds in the Oven at 400Ā°F for 5 Minutes
  • Combine the Clove, Almonds and Rum in a Glass Jar and let it Steep for 2 Days
  • Add the Lime Zest and Ginger to the Jar
  • Shake to mix it up and then let Steep for 1 more Day
  • Strain the Liquid out of the mixture into a separate Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Combine the Lime Juice, Sugar and Water in a Pot over medium heat
  • Bring to a boil while stirring
  • Combine the 2 Mixtures and then shake to Combine

Falernum is a Tiki Syrup that is used in a fair amount of Tropical Drinks including the Zombie and Test Pilot. It can sometimes be found in stores, but if you can’t, that is what this recipe is for.

Ingredients

1 PoundGinger Root
5 CupsWater
1 PoundWhite Sugar

Directions

  • Peel and Chop up the Ginger Root into small, bite sized Pieces
  • Combine the Ginger and Water in a medium Pot over medium-high Heat
  • Cover and let cook for 35 minutes
  • Pour out most of the the Water, leaving about .25 Cup
  • Add the Sugar and stir until the Sugar begins to Crystalize
  • Remove the Ginger from to Pot and set aside to cool

Candied Ginger is is sometimes found at old General Stores, but otherwise hard to find. It can be eaten by itself, but is used as a Garnish for the Penicillin Cocktail.

4 Inch PieceGinger Root
1 DashVodka (Optional)

  • Peel and Chop up the Ginger Root

  • Double Strain into a Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Add the Vodka and Shake till Combined

Honey Ginger Syrup is like Honey Syrup, except with Ginger. This ingredient is used in the Penicillin, but is also good in Tea. The Vodka is used to make the syrup more shelf stable.

1 Stick (8 Tablespoons)Softened Unsalted Butter
.5 CupWhite Sugar
.5 CupBrown Sugar
2 BarspoonsGround Cinnamon
1 BarspoonGround Clove
1 BarspoonGround Nutmeg
1 CupVanilla Ice Cream

Directions

  • Combine the Ingredients in a Mixing Bowl
  • Mix until it has the Consistency of a Batter
  • Pour into a Container for Storage
  • Store in the Freezer

This Batter is made to be used in Hot Buttered Rum. The Traditional Hot Buttered Rum is not made with Batter, but it is a modern take that has become more and more popular. It is more creamy and decadent than the Traditional Drink. This Recipe can be used to create between 8 to 15 Cocktails depending on how much you use.

1 SplashOrange Blossom Water
1 TeaspoonPomegranate Molasses (Optional)
1 SplashVodka

  • Combine the Sugar and Pomegranate Juice in a Cooking Pot over Medium Heat
  • Stir till Sugar is Dissolved
  • Remove from heat and mix in the Orange Blossom Water and Molasses
  • Pour into a Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Add the Vodka and Shake

Grenadine is a Pomegranate Syrup that is used in many Cocktails. It is sometimes used for its red color, like in the Tequila Sunrise, or used for flavor, like in the El Presidente. Store bought Grenadine is normally a lot more thin and may even be better for certain recipes, but homemade is usually the way to go.

Infusing Liquor is a relatively easy process, but can take awhile.

You just soak whatever flavor you want in the Liquor you want at room temperature.

For Citron Vodka (Lemon Flavored Vodka) used in the Lemon Drop Martini and Cosmopolitan, you would let Lemon Peels soak in Vodka for around 2 to 3 Days.

For the Earl Grey Gin used in the Earl Grey MarTeani, you would let a Tea Bag soak in Gin for a couple hours.

You can do the same thing with Cucumbers or Orange Peels.

Cream of Coconut in a Coconut Syrup used in a couple famous Tropical drinks like the PiƱa Colada and the Painkiller. Store bought Cream of Coconut can be okay if you get the right stuff. Coco Lopez is a good one, but can be somewhat hard to find. Many of the other brands taste really fake, so you’d be better off making your own. The vodka is only added to help extend the shelf life.

  • Combine the Sugar and Water in a Cooking Pot over Medium Heat
  • Add the Fruit to the Pot
  • Muddle the Fruit to release the Juices
  • Heat until almost Boiling while constantly Stirring
  • Double Strain into a Glass Jar or Bottle once the Sugar is dissolved
  • Add the Vodka and Shake

Fruit Simple Syrups are used in a variety of Cocktails like Raspberry Syrup in the Clover Club. You can also use them on your Waffles and Pancakes. You can use fresh or frozen fruit, but Fresh is almost always best. The splash of Vodka is used to help extend the Shelf Life.

  • Combine the Honey and Warm Water in a Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Shake until the Liquid combines and becomes a watery consistency

Honey Syrup is very simple to make. The less water you use the more shelf stable it is. Honey Syrup is used in cocktail crafting because pure honey is thick and can be hard to use. It is used in cocktails like the Bee’s Knees and Gold Rush.
