Grapefruit Shandy

Ingredients

12 oz.Wheat Beer
2 oz.Grapefruit Juice
GarnishGrapefruit Slice

Directions

  • Combine Ingredients in a Beer Glass
  • Stir till Combined
  • Garnish with a Grapefruit Slice

The Grapefruit Shandy is a Shandy, except with Grapefruit Juice instead of Lemonade. It is the most popular Shandy riff. Some recipes call for Grapefruit Soda or try making a Grapefruit Ade with Simple Syrup and Water, but I find that to be completely unnecessary and overly sweet.

The Irish Car Bomb, or Irish Shot (among other names), was invented in 1979 by Charles Burke Cronin Oat in Norwich, Connecticut. The name is a reference to the fact that all the ingredients are from Ireland but also to the series of car bombing that happened in Ireland during “The Troubles.” Some deem the name offensive and have begun using other names. It is a bomb shot, not unlike the Vegas Bomb or Sake Bomb. The Shot Glass is normally dropped into the Pint Glass, but some like to just pour it in.

Trojan Horse

Trojan Horse

Ingredients

1 PartStout
1 PartCola

Directions

  • Combine the Ingredients in a Beer Glass

The Trojan Horse, or the Guinness and Coke, is a simple two ingredient Cocktail. It is called the Trojan Horse because the Cola is supposed to hide the taste of the Stout like the Wooden Horse hid the soldiers in Greek Mythology. But is also begs the question, if you don’t like the taste of Guinness, why drink it?

Sometimes the Whiskey is mixed into the beer, and if the shot is dropped into the beer it becomes known as a Depth Charge, Bomb Shot, or Drop Shot.

Beer Float

Beer Float

Ingredients

Beer
Ice Cream

Directions

  • Pour Beer into a Beer Mug while leaving room
  • Scoop Ice Cream into the Beer Mug

A Beer Float is like a Root Beer Float, but with Beer. Adding the Beer first is pretty important, because if you pour it over the Ice Cream, the foam will get all hard and it will become difficult to continue adding beer. You can use whatever Beer you want, but a Porter or Stout works really well. Just be smart with what you use, because Cotton Candy Ice Cream might not taste great with a Double IPA.
