Sazerac

Ingredients

1.25 oz.Rye Whiskey
1.25 oz.Cognac (Brandy)
3 DashesPeychaud’s Bitters
2 DashesAngostura Bitters
To RinseAbsinthe
1Sugar Cube
.5 oz.Cold Water
GarnishLemon Peel

Directions

  • Rinse a Rocks Glass with Absinthe and set aside
  • In a separate Rocks Glass (or Mixing Glass) Muddle the Sugar Cube with the Water and Bitters
  • Combine the Liquor in the Glass with the Sugar and add Ice
  • Stir for 30 Seconds
  • Strain into the Absinthe Rinsed Glass
  • Express the Oils from the Lemon Peel over the Top and then Garnish with the Peel

The Sazerac is a Cocktail that is closely associated with New Orleans and similar to the Old Fashioned. For whatever reason it is usually made using two Rocks Glasses, but using a Mixing Glass is considerably easier. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.
