The Cuba Libre, or Rum & Coke, was created in Cuba in the early 1900’s. The name comes from a slogan from the Cuban Independence Movement and means “Free Cuba.” It became popular when Coca-Cola first started to be exported from the U.S. to Cuba. A Bacardi advertising executive, named Fausto Rodriguez, claims to have been present when the first one was poured in August 1900. He claims an American Soldier ordered Bacardi mixed with Coke and the rest is History. This is an IBA Official Cocktail.
