The Tom Collins is a cocktail that dates back to the 1800’s. It is believed, that the drink was originally called a John Collins, but became the Tom Collins because it was usually made with Old Tom Gin. Now the John Collins is this drink that substitutes the Gin for Whiskey. If you substitute the Gin for Vodka, it is a Vodka Collins. The Tom Collins also has the same ingredients as the Gin Fizz, the difference is the way it’s prepared and served. The “Collins Glass” was named after this drink. This is an Official IBA Cocktail, but they call it a John Collins, which is odd because they call specifically for Old Tom Gin.
